A note from Your Second Grade Teachers

Some friendly daily reminders:

• Parents, please read and sign agenda daily. Also, sign Behavior chart if there is a note on the back of the calendar.
• Scholars read 20 minutes daily, record in Reading Log, parents initial daily. Students can earn up to 10pts weekly towards their Reading grade.
• If your scholar is going to be absent from school, please email absence@greatheartswesternhills.org . Also, if you have a doctor's note or a written excuse, please send that in or email the teacher and attendance office too.

This week in Spalding, we are working on 28 words and studying phonograms!

                  Singapore Math

This week Scholars will start adding 3 digit numbers. They will continue to learn their math facts in Rocket Math  and solve 3 digit word problems. They will have quiz on Monday to monitor understanding

   

                      Literature

In Literature this week we are closing on Sarah, Plain and Tall and begin reading Fables including The Tiger, The Brahman & The Jackal & The Blindman and The Elephant. Friday we will introduce the Fairytale The Emperor’s New Clothes.

                 Poetry / Sayings

We are learning the poem, “The Secret.” We will recite this poem on the 30th.

Saying: Introduce new saying, “Cold Feet.” 

              Grammar/ Writing

    This week in grammar, we are reviewing proper nouns and learning about different types of verbs!

                          History

This week in history  scholars are continuing to explore Ancient China.

Scholars will learn about some of China’s important

Inventions, and about the Chinese New Year.

 In Science will continue our exploration of land and water with a unit that covers glaciers and valleys and Interpreting land and water features on a topographical map and globe.
