A note from Your Second Grade Teachers

Some friendly daily reminders:

  • Parents, please read and sign agenda daily. Also, sign Behavior chart if there is a note on the back of the calendar.
  • Scholars read 20 minutes daily, record in Reading Log, parents initial daily. Students can earn up to 10pts weekly towards their Reading grade.
  • If your scholar is going to be absent from school, please email absence@greatheartswesternhills.org . Also, if you have a doctor's note or a written excuse, please send that in or email the teacher and attendance office too.

This week in Spalding, we are working on 29 words and studying phonograms!




                 Singapore Math

This week Scholars will be adding and renaming 3 digit numbers, and solving 3 digit word problems within 1000. They will continue to master math facts in Rocket Math. They will have a quiz Monday 9/26.


Literature

In Literature this week we are starting a new Fairy Tale, “Beauty and The Beast.”
               
                Poetry / Sayings

We will continue to practice our poem, “The Secret,” in class. Please practice at home as we will be reciting it Thursday and Friday in class. 


*Please have your scholar practice at home! Your scholar will recite either September 29th or 30th.


                Saying:    Introduce, “Practice what you preach.”

                Grammar/ Writing

This week in grammar, we are learning about and reviewing adjectives!

In writing, we are practicing our handwriting, copywork, dictation, and narration!

                      History

This week in history  scholars reviewing the material learned in our Ancient China unit. Scholars will have a test on Friday; flashcards to study will be sent home on Monday for homework.

                          Science

 In science students will relate the behavior of water on Earth’s surface to its flow (rivers and streams) and the formation of reservoirs (ponds, lakes, ocean).
