A note from Your Second Grade Teachers

Some friendly daily reminders:

We are now in Quarter 2 

October 10 - October 14 - Fall Break, No School and parent teacher conferences. 

- Parents please do not forget to sign up for your scholars parent teacher conference for Oct 10 - Oct 11. 

October 17 - October 20 - Students return 

There will be no school on Friday October 21

 (Teacher Professional Development day)

  • Parents, please read and sign agenda daily. Also, sign Behavior chart if there is a note on the back of the calendar.
  • Scholars read 20 minutes daily, record in Reading Log, parents initial daily. Students can earn up to 10pts weekly towards their Reading grade.
  • If your scholar is going to be absent from school, please email attendance@greatheartswesternhills.org . Also, if you have a doctor's note or a written excuse, please send that in or email the teacher and attendance office too.

Plans for the week of October 17 - October 20 

Spalding

This week in Spalding, we are working on 19 words and studying phonograms!

Singapore Math

This week Scholars will start Subtraction. It is very important that the verbiage at home matches that of what we are using at school, Therefore when supporting students with homework. 
* Please do your best to refrain from using the word borrowed 
Literature

Literature: This week we are continuing our classic to keep book, The Borrowers, by Mary Norton.

Poetry / Sayings

Poetry/Sayings: This week we are practicing and reciting Something Told the Wild Geese, by Rachel Field. 

Please have your scholar practice at home! Reciting October 27th & 28th.  


Saying:

We are learning about our saying, Turning Over a New Leaf. 



Grammar/ Writing

This week in grammar, we are learning about and reviewing adjectives!

In writing, we are practicing our handwriting, copy work, dictation, and narration!

History / Science : 

This week in history  scholars will Identify Japan as a country made up of four main islands. Recognize modern Japanese cities as sites of

industry and business.


 In Science scholars will be classifying matter by physical properties, including shape, relative mass, relative temperature, texture, flexibility, and whether material is a solid or liquid*
